THIS NEW LIFE OF MINE
I changed the name of my Instagram account to @jennagines.
Follow me, if you're not already!

There I will be empowering Momma's with respectful parenting, minimalist living & disability support. Especially Momma's who just receive a diagnosis.
Hence, this new life of mine. It is a new life but it's the best life!
I developed a love and a passion for disabilities while I was in college. That's what I did. I worked at a residential program, a summer camp & a preschool. I LOVED it! I took college courses and learned so much. And I've always LOVED Sign Language!
I developed a passion for advocating for people and children with disabilities. That is what I wanted to do for work. After I quit at the residential program I focused on my family.
I didn't think I would have a child with a disability. Not a lot of people do, so why would I?... I should have known... ;)
Now with Jackson's diagnosis I'm back. (See what God did there?!)
Advocating, spreading awareness and support for those with disabilities and their Momma's.
WHAT IS A DISABILITY?
"It's a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities".
There are so many different types. Disabilities can range from Autism & Down Syndrome, which most people are familiar with, to chronic illness, hearing loss & deafness, learning disabilities, mental health and physical disabilities.
Wikipedia says, "More than 1 billion persons in the world have some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world's population."
People with disabilities make up the Nation's largest minority group and one that ANY OF US could join at any time! Have you ever thought about that??
People with disabilities are people first!
They are not Autistic, confined to a wheelchair or suffer from a disability.
It doesn't define them. Sure it's part of who they are but not all.
I don't use or love the term "special needs". They have needs just like all of us. Some may be different needs but they're not "special".
Watch this cute video below to see what I mean!
A great website that shares more is www.notspecialneeds.com.
